The shop

A 1920s hardware store with five chairs and a strop

Since 2011, a barbershop for men who want the same great cut every time and a quiet forty-five minutes to get it. Here is how we work and where you'll sit.

The hot towel ritual

Forty-five minutes, planned to the minute

Every cut on the menu follows the same four steps, whichever barber you sit with. Theo teaches it to every new barber in his first week, and it is why a Signature Cut is booked for 45 minutes, not 30.

  1. The consult

    Four minutes at the mirror before anything is cut: your guard numbers, your part, how you style it on a Tuesday morning.

  2. The hot towel

    A eucalyptus-steamed towel over the face and neck opens everything up, and nobody talks for a minute.

  3. The cut

    Clippers and shears in whatever order your hair needs, checked dry, checked wet and checked from the back.

  4. The finish

    Neck shaved with a fresh blade, a cold towel, product worked in by hand and a mirror held at the back of your head.

Since 2011

The ledger

  1. 2011

    Theo opens two chairs above a record shop on Halloran Street with a borrowed strop and one secondhand 1950s chair.

  2. 2014

    Rafael joins. Saturdays start at 8 AM and fill by Thursday.

  3. 2017

    The move to 1127 Wexford Avenue, a 1920s hardware store with the original pine floors and a tin ceiling.

  4. 2020

    Online booking with a $15 deposit. Empty chairs from no-shows drop by more than half.

  5. 2023

    The Regular and The Club memberships launch, and the loyalty stamp card retires for good.

  6. 2025

    Kenji joins and Saturday mornings become kids' mornings.

The space

Where you'll sit

  • The floor

    Original heart pine boards from the 1920s hardware store, sanded back and oiled instead of covered.

  • The chairs

    Five restored 1958 barber chairs with porcelain bases, rebuilt hydraulics and new oxblood leather.

  • The ceiling

    Pressed tin panels, repaired by hand where the old shelving used to hang.

  • The lounge

    A leather bench by the front windows, espresso from the bar and a record player that someone always fixes.

  • The shave room

    A quiet room at the back with one chair, a towel warmer and the lights turned down for straight razor shaves.

  • The blades

    A fresh single-use blade for every straight razor service, and clippers cleaned between every client.

House rules

Four, and we keep them short

  1. Booked clients go first. Walk-ins take the next open chair.
  2. Phones on silent in the shave room.
  3. Kids are welcome with a parent in the shop.
  4. Tipping is appreciated, never expected. Cash or card at the chair.

Theo and Rafael have trained everyone in the shop. Every barber here is licensed and cuts full time.
