Size
Tons, not guesses
A 2,000 sq ft house can need anywhere from 2 to 4 tons. We run a room-by-room load calculation, because an oversized AC cycles too often and never dries the air.
SEER2
Efficiency you can feel
16 SEER2 is the sweet spot for most Front Range homes. Variable-speed units cost more up front and pay back fastest in homes that run the AC all summer.
Refrigerant
R-22 is on borrowed time
Systems installed before 2010 often use R-22. New systems use R-454B or R-32. Mixing them is not possible, which is why old condensers are replaced with a matching coil.

Cooling FAQ
Should I turn the AC off if it is blowing warm?
Yes. Running a system with a failed capacitor or low refrigerant can overheat the compressor, which turns a $250 repair into a $2,500 one. Switch the thermostat to off and leave the fan on if you want air moving.
What if the compressor has failed?
A compressor replacement usually runs $2,500 to $3,500 installed. On a system over 10 years old we price a new condenser and coil next to it, because the difference is often smaller than people expect.
Do you still service R-22 systems?
Yes, and we will always offer to repair them. Because R-22 is no longer produced, recharges cost more each year, so on R-22 systems we price the repair and a replacement side by side.
What does SEER2 mean for my bill?
SEER2 measures cooling efficiency: the higher the number, the less electricity for the same cooling. A 16 SEER2 heat pump needs roughly a third less power than a 10 SEER system from 2005 to move the same heat. Your actual bill depends on your house, your rates and how you set the thermostat.
How fast can you come in a heat wave?
We hold back part of every technician's afternoon during heat waves for no-cooling calls. Homes with infants, older adults or anyone with a medical condition are dispatched first.
