1The challenge
The challenge and the solution
Four small first-floor rooms, a kitchen with nine feet of counter, one bathroom upstairs for a family of five and knob-and-tube wiring in half the walls. The owners loved the original stair and trim and did not want the house to lose its character.
2What we did
We removed the wall between the old kitchen and dining room on a steel flitch beam, carved a mudroom and powder room out of the back corner, rewired the house on a new 200 amp service and restored the original stair. New trim was milled to match the 1918 profiles.
